Blue Magpie Craft Fair – Garden Party Extravaganza

Let’s face it, the last year’s been rather a tough one. We’ve been shut away, finding new ways to live, work and stay in touch. We’ve all had our challenges but, with everything crossed for the next few months, we’re beyond excited to announce that the next Blue Magpie Contemporary Craft Fair will be taking place on 1st and 2nd May.

Come and join us for a celebratory fair which will, for the first time, stretch out into the garden at Elmslie House. We’re planning a garden party vibe, which will include live music, more makers than ever before and a larger space to enjoy Blue Magpie’s famous collection of cakes in the open air. Parts of the garden that are usually closed to visitors will be open for everyone to enjoy.

Makers at May’s fair will include designer makers who work in ceramics, jewellery, textiles, glass and wood, as well as artists and illustrators. Elmslie’s garden is already home to various sculptures and we’re thrilled to be welcoming the artisans who created them to May’s fair. Visitors will be able to buy directly from the sculptors as well as commission them to create something unique.

COVID has meant that the Elmslie team (like the rest of the world) has been through a huge learning curve; adapting to restrictions while still trying to keep everything going. To keep everyone safe at the May fair, we will be implementing restrictions on the number of visitors being in the house at any one time, a one-way system around the house and a return of the much-loved takeaway tearoom (called the ‘Cake Away’) to replace the popular tearooms that are usually set up in the house, selling an enviable array of homemade cakes and other delicious treats that can either be enjoyed in Elmslie’s garden or taken home.

We can’t wait to welcome makers and visitors back to Elmslie House. The Blue Magpie Contemporary Craft Fairs are always huge fun and have people coming back time and time again to discover more treasures from new and favourite makers. The number and diversity of the designer makers who attend; the friendly atmosphere, with the chance for visitors to meet the makers, and the cake (and other tasty treats) from the Cake Away are part of what makes Blue Magpie fairs firm favourites with both makers and visitors alike! As one recent visitor said, “It’s an inspirational space, full of inspirational people and things!”
