In Charlie Mackesy’s hugely successful, uplifting and inspiring book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, there’s a little mole who is rather fond of cake. It was this velvet jacketed chap who said, “where there’s tea, there’s cake”.

We can’t help being rather big fans of the mole here at Elmslie, as tea and cake feature rather a lot in our lives – from team meetings, to Blue Magpie Contemporary Craft Fairs. We’re often to be found discussing which of Anna’s amazing cakes are our favourites and putting in requests for ones we’d like to be featured in Elmslie’s two tearooms. There’s always a rush of excitement when freshly baked cheese scones arrive on the scene!

There’s always a mouthwatering array of cakes at Elmslie House!

Our weekly team meetings almost always include a round up of the cakes that Anna’s been baking in the Elmslie kitchen for her family. If you follow us on Instagram – @elmsliehousemalvern and @bluemagpiecraft – you can often spot mouth-watering photos of Anna’s latest culinary creations!

Can you guess which is the most popular cake at the Blue Magpie Contemporary Craft Fairs?

Carrot cake is the most popular treat at the Blue Magpie Contemporary Craft Fairs.

It’s carrot cake! Anna also loves making Algerian Love cakes for the fairs too.

Talking of the Blue Magpie Contemporary Craft Fairs, we’re in the midst of planning this year’s Christmas event. With lockdown plans currently being reviewed by the government, we’re keeping everything crossed that the fair in November will be able to go ahead. Applications for makers to apply are now open, so if you’re a maker or know anyone who would like to be part of the Blue Magpie community, please take a look here.

Until next time…stay safe, eat cake and enjoy a cup of tea!
